Robert Nowotny
Candidate for Texas House District 73

Dear Friends, Family and Campaign Supporters:

Although I was unsuccessful in my bid to become the first Libertarian in history to be elected to the Texas State Legislature, I am extremely gratified to have received the support of so many wonderful individuals. As most of you know, I set aside my career back in early January to give 100% to this endeavor. The first six months I spent a minimum of seven hours every day researching the various issues that I thought were important to the citizens of the Lone Star State and, especially, to those living in Texas House District 73. I discovered that virtually none of these had simple solutions - talk about an education!

These last few months I have campaigned to the best of my ability. My opponent, Doug Miller, consistently treated me with respect and courtesy. I believe I did the same, and I am delighted to report that at no time did either of us resort to any kind of "mud slinging" that dominated so many other contested political races at virtually all levels of government. I want to wish Mr. Miller well as he takes office for his second term.

Special thanks must go to my wife, Lynda, for helping me at every step along the way. Together, we have laid the foundation for the Libertarian Party in Bandera, Comal, Gillespie and Kendall County. When we started out at the beginning of the year there was absolutely no Libertarian Party presence in any of these four counties - now there is. In this, we take pride.

I also want to thank my fantastic Campaign Manager, Laura Valle, who committed her time and energy early on and, despite working a full-time job as a nurse, has been a phenomenal help. I had never run for office previously, and Laura had never tried to manage a political campaign. While we were both extremely inexperienced, we decided to think "outside the box" and to learn everything we could as the campaign proceeded. Laura is now a veteran and she would be a wonderful addition to any candidate's support team in the future.

Most importantly, I must thank all of the financial supporters who contributed to my campaign. I am very proud of the fact that I received donations from individuals living not only throughout Texas, but also in Maryland, Georgia, Missouri, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada, California, Hawaii and, believe it or not, several American citizens now living and working in South Korea. I want to reiterate that I did not accept one penny from any Special Interest Group, Lobbyist or Political Action Committee. This was truly a grassroots campaign - the way American politics is supposed to be.

As for what is next, I haven't a clue -- most likely I will devote my energy to several motion picture projects that I would like to produce. And I do believe that while I might not run for office again, I am going to find ways to support others in their quest to get elected. I've learned too much to not do so.

In closing, I want to give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported me during the past ten or so months. Until you actually run for office you have no idea how very gratifying and rewarding even the smallest words of encouragement or a modest donation can be. So thanks, again, to everyone, everywhere, who were willing to back a long shot, who were willing to send a message that more of the same is unacceptable, and who were willing to vote for a third party candidate. This time the odds of winning proved insurmountable - let's hope they won't be in 2012.

Sincerely,

Robert A. Nowotny
