Whether a Republican or a Democrat, most candidates will say exactly what you want to hear and then, once in office, they will immediately focus on what they need to do to get reelected again, and again, and again... The needs and desires of the voters take a back seat to the need for money and the need for power. Enter the lobbyists. Yes, the fat cats buy what they want with bags full of money, and you, the lowly citizen, is left holding the bag.

As a result, one of my top priorities is to overhaul the existing, self-perpetuating regulations which foster the status quo. As I see it, there are three things which should be done.

- - -  In order to grant voters a full range of choice in all local and state elections, I propose the addition of the alternative "None of the above is acceptable" to all ballots. In the event that "None of the above is acceptable" receives a plurality of votes in any election, either the elective office for that term should remain unfilled and unfunded, or there should be a new election in which none of the losing candidates shall be eligible. This will put a stop to having to vote for the "lesser of two evils." Be honest, how often have you had to do that? I'm guessing way too often...

- - -  I believe any citizen who otherwise is eligible for office, i.e. meeting residency and age requirements, etc., should be allowed to run for any local and any state office without having to first obtain a ridiculous number of signatures to simply be allowed to appear on the ballot. Texas currently has a prohibitive law which in effect excludes alternate candidates and parties from their rightful place on election ballots thereby protecting the Republican and the Democratic parties to the exclusion of just about everyone else. This needs to be changed.

- - -  I propose term limits for all office holders. Serving in office should be a privilege, not a career.
